Crystal Palace are keen to wrap up a move for Adam Wharton this month as they fear Newcastle United plans to hijack the deal in the summer.

According to Football Insider, Crystal Palace are keen to sign key midfield target Adam Wharton this month. The Eagles fear the entry of other rivals in the race during the summer, especially Newcastle United, as they are keen to wrap up a deal for the 19-year-old Tottenham target.

Crystal Palace fear for Adam Wharton deal

Crystal Palace fans are not in a happy mood following the team’s recent performances and even put up a big banner during their loss to Arsenal. The Eagles are keen on ensuring a solid end to the season and are prepared to spend on critical players this winter.

With the transfer window only days away from closure, they are keen to tie up a deal for 19-year-old Adam Wharton. Blackburn have already rejected a bid from Palace for about £18.5 million, as they were expected to submit a fresh proposal which could exceed the £20 million mark.

Wharton has made a big impression with Blackburn and even signed a new five-year deal last month, which puts the Championship side in a strong position. While Palace are keen to wrap up a deal now, they fear rivals could hijack the deal if it stretches to next summer.

Hodgson has already lost vital star Cheick Doucoure early in the season and has since faced a shortage in midfield. The incorporation of the 19-year-old Wharton could help Palace in a big way in the second part of the season. Still, they seriously have concerns about a hijack, especially as the report mentions Newcastle United are interested.

Newcastle United want to hijack the Wharton deal.

Newcastle United are patiently waiting for the transfer window to end and will probably start planning their next course of action ahead of the summer. They have Wharton on their list of potential midfielder signing for the next window, but they will hope he doesn’t join Palace in the coming days.

Tottenham were also keen, but they have since moved on, although if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leaves, then they could even make a late bid to test Blackburn. Hence, Palace are desperate to close the deal now and will hope their expected new proposal would seal the move.

Wharton has been a good performer for Blackburn, and he will have to make a big decision to leave the club now and join Palace. If not, he could have more offers coming in the summer but with less bargaining power on the personal contract, something he can extract now at Selhurst Park.

As usual Palace are rushing around on the last few days of the transfer window, and again likely to miss out on their main targets. Ending up with the crap on the final day that no one else wants? A new right back is excellent business, but I need to see him sighed first. Sorry to be so negative but that is being a Palace supporter these days?
