Tottenham Hotspur discover what they need to pay to land Blackburn star Adam Wharton

According to Football Insider, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Blackburn Rovers star Adam Wharton and are keen to secure his services. The 19-year-old will set Spurs back around £10-15million in transfer fees.

The English youth international is one of the finest prospects in the EFL Championship. A central midfielder, Wharton can fulfil both attacking and defensive roles with equal proficiency. This two-way nature makes him a modern-day midfielder who could develop into a Premier League regular in the years to come.

Wharton made his senior debut in 2022 and has since made 49 appearances for Blackburn across all competitions, scoring thrice and assisting five more. The youngster is a tough tackler with a no-nonsense style of winning the ball back. Add to it his ability to carve open opposition defences and it is clear that Wharton could add much-needed dynamism in the middle of the park.

Tottenham have been watching the 19-year-old for some time now and will be well aware of his capabilities and potential. Blackburn Rovers are not averse to a sale and a deal of around £10-15million should turn their head.

He recently penned a new deal that will keep him at Ewood Park until 2028. This means Spurs could find themselves struggling to bring the price down. Paying up appears to be the easiest way for the North Londoners to secure their man.

Under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs are finally putting together a plan that appears to be showing results on the field. Bringing in young talent is a priority for Daniel Levy and he has already raided Blackburn once recently for Ashley Phillips. Should the deal go through, Wharton will join a list of promising young talents who could lead Tottenham into a new era.

Making the jump from the EFL Championship to the Premier League is no easy feat but is doable. James Maddison was able to do so effortlessly and could pass on his learnings to Wharton. The 19-year-old will also add to Tottenham’s home-grown player quota, a added bonus.
