Aston Villa and West Ham United have contacted Pedro Goncalves’ agent to figure out a January move, but Sporting CP remain insistent on his release clause.

According to O Jogo via Sport Witness, Aston Villa and West Ham United are showing late interest in signing Pedro Goncalves. The Premier League duo have contacted the 25-year-old winger’s agent in a bid to understand the conditions of a move, but Sporting CP are insistent on his €80 million release clause.

Could Aston Villa and West Ham sign Pedro Goncalves?

Aston Villa and West Ham have been looking for a winger in this window and are, in fact, close to signing a player in that position. However, they are also looking at Pedro Goncalves as a potential option and could decide to rekindle their interest in the 25-year-old winger before the deadline.

There are not too many days left in this January window, as they must act fast to sign the 25-year-old winger. However, Sporting CP are not keen on selling the promising player in the middle of the season and would demand interested clubs pay up his €80 million release clause. The Premier League duo have already contacted Goncalves’ agent to understand the conditions.

Aston Villa were told to trigger his release clause when they first registered their interest many months ago. Unai Emery has been keen on a new attacker since the summer, despite the signing of Moussa Diaby, as the Spaniard wanted one more.

West Ham boss David Moyes is not very happy with the performances of some of his players and could consider a sale of Said Benrahma if a viable offer arrived. The Scottish manager might view Goncalves as a viable option, but considering his current price point, neither the Hammers nor Aston Villa are likely to proceed with their interest.

Aston Villa and West Ham close to signing new players

Aston Villa are keen on wrapping up at least one signing before the window closes and are now advancing for Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough. The Championship side have already rebuffed an earlier attempt, but the player remains keen, and his arrival could help Emery shore up the left wing.

West Ham have held advanced talks for Ibrahim Osman, but they have had more than one target in mind to replace Benrahma, including Hull City’s Jonathan Rowe. Moyes remains hopeful of landing at least one player between now and the end of the window.

As for the Goncalves links, the Premier League duo could revisit their interest in the summer in the hope that the 25-year-old winger would be available for a lower price. For now, Sporting will cling tightly to their versatile attacker and see out the season with him.
