Chelsea have seemingly decided not to pursue Viktor Gyokeres this month, as they would rather pay big for a renowned striker in the summer.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea may not pursue a move for Viktor Gyokeres this month despite reports stating the contrary. The Blues are keen on a striker and had seen links to the Sporting CP star. But they would rather spend big in the summer on a move renowned centre-forward than the €100 million-rated striker.

Chelsea not seriously interested in Viktor Gyokeres

Chelsea clearly need a new striker, and they have been in the market for many months. However, their preferred targets are either very expensive in January or unavailable for a transfer this month, which has seen them getting linked with alternative options.

For instance, multiple reports have linked Chelsea with a move for Viktor Gyokeres, with suggestions that they had tabled a bid for the Sporting CP star. The Swede only joined the Portuguese side in the summer from Coventry City and has been in scintillating form with 32-goal contributions this season.

He suits Chelsea’s style, but as per the report, Gyokeres is pretty low in the ranks in their shortlist. Moreover, he also has a €100 million release clause that cast doubts whether the Blues would pay up. Fabrizio Romano recently rubbished links with the Sporting CP star, which seems true considering the wide range of links with a switch to Stamford Bridge.

The story insists that while Chelsea may have come to admire Gyokeres, they would rather spend the money the €100 million-rated striker would command on a different striker altogether. Moreover, had the Blues held a strong interest, they would pay nowhere close to his current release clause. Hence, as things stand, the Stamford Bridge outfit are not in the running for Gyokeres this month.

Chelsea are targeting a big striker move in the summer

Chelsea are ninth on the Premier League table, with the chances of them making into the top four already slim. Hence, the club hierarchy might step back in their chase for a top-draw striker and focus on bringing someone prominent in the summer.

For instance, a few reports have already stated that Victor Osimhen has said yes to joining the Stamford Bridge outfit. The Nigerian will seem like a big coup for a side likely not to play the Champions League next season, but given his release clause, there will be other clubs in the race.

Chelsea have also considered alternatives to Osimhen but will push to sign the Napoli star in the summer. Overall, in the context of them deciding against splashing on the €100 million-rated Gyokeres, the idea is to drop a hefty fee on a more renowned striker than the Sporting star.
