Fabrizio Romano rubbished reports claiming Chelsea’s bid for striker target Viktor Gyokeres, who has a €100 million release clause.

Fabrizio Romano categorically dismissed that Chelsea had made a bid for Viktor Gyokeres recently. Some stories in the media claimed otherwise, as the Sporting CP star remains a target for the Blues amid their ongoing search for a proper centre-forward.

Fabrizio Romano dismisses Chelsea’s bid for Viktor Gyokeres

Chelsea’s search for a new striker has seen them linked with numerous names, and in the space of r a few days, reports emerged that they were preparing bids for two of their primary targets, Dusan Vlahovic and Viktor Gyokeres.

Some strong reporting insisted Chelsea had seen an €85 million offer turned down by Sporting CP for Gyokeres, with the Portuguese club holding out on the €100 million-rated striker’s release clause. The Swedish international only joined the Liga outfit in the summer. If the reports of the bid are accurate then Sporting would have earned more than four times their investment in the forward.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has come forward dismissing those rumours of a Chelsea bid for Gyokeres, insisting he has heard nothing about the news. He also urged the €100 million-rated striker to have plenty of other suitors and hinted that Sporting would accept nothing less than his release clause in this window.

Romano said, “Chelsea has NOT submitted any bid for Viktor Gyokeres despite recent reports. Gyokeres is having a fantastic season at Sporting and was scouted by many top clubs, but no negotiations are taking place no”

Gyokeres has had a fantastic start to the season with Sporting CP, taking them top of their division. The Swede has 20 goals and 10 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions, thus making him one of the sought-after forwards in the current window.

Which clubs are interested in Viktor Gyokeres?

Despite the long list of interested clubs seeking Gyokeres’ signature, the striker seems happy with life in Portugal for the time being. Chelsea can see themselves as strong contenders in the race if an opportunity opens up later this month.

They may need an Enzo Fernandez-like deal to sign the Swedish striker and may be forced to pay the total price for the €100 million-rated striker, considering his form and other things. Manchester United are also keen on the striker, and so are Arsenal.

Sporting are in no rush to sell him, as they are aware of Gyokeres’ increasing popularity among the continent’s elite clubs. Hence, they might feel the need to hold on to him for now and probably sell him during the summer, with Chelsea likely to lead the race as things stand.
