Chelsea have reportedly considering making a move for Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea are apparently weighing up an audacious move to lure Bayern Munich’s marauding full-back Alphonso Davies, with growing speculation over his future in Germany.

The Blues have endured a very underwhelming first half of the season and currently sit in ninth place in the Premier League table. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring in reinforcements this month, but Chelsea’s budget will hinge on whether they can offload the fringe cast.

As such, left-back has proven to be a problem area for Pochettino so far this season. While Ben Chilwell is their undisputed first-choice, the England international has endured consistent injury problems. He recently returned to action during the Blues’ 1-0 Premier League home victory against Fulham.

The Blues recently allowed Ian Maatsen to join Borussia Dortmund on loan after struggling for first-team minutes, though the full-back signed a contract extension until 2026 before heading to the Bundesliga.

Marc Cucurella is also injured at the moment, and the Spaniard, when fit, hasn’t been convincing due to his inconsistent form. As a result, centre-back Levi Colwill has been forced to play as a left-back in recent games, with Malo Gusto filling in for the injured Reece James at right back.

According to the aforementioned report, Chelsea will pursue a move for Bayern’s Alphonso Davies in the near future and they will face competition from Real Madrid.

Renowned as one of the fastest players in world football, the Canadian full-back signed for Bayern in 2019. He has since gone on to make 177 appearances for the German giants, netting seven goals and providing 28 assists in the process.

Although he has been near-ever-present under Thomas Tuchel so far across all competitions, summer recruit Raphael Guerreiro has recently returned from an injury that saw him miss most of the early months of the season and will now provide competition for Davies’s spot in the side.

The 23-year-old’s contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire in the summer of 2025, and talks over a new deal are currently at a logjam.

Davies’ situation has caught the attention of several top clubs, including Manchester City and Real Madrid, with Chelsea now ready to throw their name in the fray as they look to get a stunning coup over the line.
