Bayern Munich will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old Real Madrid prospect Rafa Marin as a counter-attack to Los Blancos’ approach for Alphonso Davies.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Rafa Marin is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions are preparing their counter-attack for Real Madrid pursuing Alphonso Davies. They have thus set their sights on the 21-year-old defensive prospect, currently on loan at Deportivo Alaves.

Who is Rafa Marin?

Rafa Marin is one of the most promising young prospects to graduate from Real Madrid’s fabled La Fabrica youth division in the last few years. A native of Guadajoz, the Spanish centre-back has yet to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu and has only experienced football at that level with Deportivo Alaves.

The Basque outfit signed the 21-year-old Real Madrid prospect on loan for the 2023/24 season in July. And he has been a regular for Alaves, turning out 19 times thus far this term. Meanwhile, Marin’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.

Reports in the summer transfer window linked the Spaniard with well-known clubs like Chelsea and RB Leipzig. Meanwhile, recent updates have pointed to Real Madrid considering integrating him into the first-team squad next season. He has now emerged as a target for Bayern Munich.

Bundesliga Calling?

The Bundesliga champions have bolstered the heart of their defence this month by signing Eric Dier. But the English international has only signed a short-term contract with Bayern Munich. In addition, Matthijs de Ligt faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena, with Manchester United showing interest in him.

Rafa Marin has thus emerged as a viable target for Bayern Munich. And the Bavarian giants are pursuing the 21-year-old Real Madrid prospect as a counter-attack for Los Blancos pursuing Alphonso Davies. Talks between Bayern and Davies over a new contract are not progressing. That has boosted Real Madrid’s hopes of signing him.

It will be interesting to see if Marin and Davies swap bases in the summer transfer window. For now, the Spanish defender has emerged as a target for Bayern Munich, with Real Madrid eyeing the Bayern full-back.
