Tottenham are still optimistic about signing Conor Gallagher as their marquee signing this winter as negotiations continue with Chelsea.

Football Insider reckons Tottenham have not given up hope of signing Conor Gallagher this month as ‘complex’ negotiations continue with Chelsea. The Blues could open their doors for a sale to boost their FFP standing, while Spurs are intent on making a marquee signing with the England midfielder their top target.

Tottenham are still pushing for Conor Gallagher.

Tottenham have not lost track of the Conor Gallagher situation, as they are still optimistic about signing the 23-year-old midfielder this month. Talks have continued with Chelsea over the last few weeks, with Spurs eager to find a solution.

A report suggested that Gallagher does not feature in Pochettino’s plans, which may have come as a surprise considering how much the manager has utilised the 23-year-old this season. Chelsea are eager to stay on par with the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability rules and could make a massive profit from the midfielder’s sale.

Tottenham are pushing to sign Gallagher and rates him as their top target in this window. They had set sights on him last summer when Chelsea probably hinted at a sale. Despite stories in the media suggesting the 23-year-old might prefer to stay put, the 18 months left on his deal pose a significant risk for the Blues and their transfer business.

Hence, there are suggestions that Chelsea might demand around £50 million for the midfielder, with any fees recieved for the 23-year-old considered as pure profit due to his homegrown status. Tottenham have the funds to execute this transfer and will hope their constant talks with the Blues come to fruition.

Tottenham’s January window plans

Tottenham are one of the active Premier League clubs this January, having already made two signings with the arrivals of Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner. They also plan on offloading several of their current stars. Two have already left on loan, while there are three others pencilled in to seal temporary moves away.

They are keen on a new midfielder, and if they manage to sign Gallagher, then Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could leave the club. The Dane has been left frustrated due to limited game time. Reports stated that Spurs will only sign Gallagher if they offload Hojbjerg, and that might just happen before the month’s end.

Beyond that, Tottenham are unlikely to make any signings unless there’s a massive opportunity that arrives late in the window. Having completed the majority of their business so far, they might focus all their efforts on the Gallagher pursuit.
