According to Football Insider, London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea continue to talk to each other regarding Conor Gallagher as the January transfer window gathers steam.
The English international appeared to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge last summer but ultimately stayed put. Tottenham have been aware of his talents for a while now but struggled to get a deal over the line in the summer.
This has given Gallagher a second wind at Chelsea, impressing under Mauricio Pochettino and also donning the captain’s armband with pride. In fact, Gallagher has been one of Chelsea’s best players in what is an otherwise forgetful season.
His impactful performances have done little to stifle Tottenham’s interest and they remain in the market for a midfielder following the capture of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin. However, it would appear that a move for a midfielder is dependent on whether Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg opts to stay or leave the N-17.
Valued at around £45-50million, Gallagher will fetch Chelsea a profit given that he came through the ranks at Cobham. The Blues need to sell before they can buy and parting ways with the 23-year-old would give them the opportunity to do just that.
Tottenham continue to have regular talks with Chelsea regarding a deal for the Englishman. Whether the two fierce rivals can work out an understanding remains to be seen. More so, Gallagher came through the ranks at Stamford Bridge, a blue at heart. Whether he will entertain the possibility of donning a rival;’s colours also remains to be seen.
Either way, there is little debate that the Englishman is today one of the Premier League’s best performers. He would perfectly suit Ange Postecoglou’s exciting brand of football with his energy and intelligence. With just under three weeks to go before the window snaps shut this winter, the decision-makers at Chelsea and Spurs could be very busy indeed.
