Napoli have a strong interest in Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as the Italian champions are pushing to complete the move.

According to The Telegraph, Napoli has expressed an interest in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and could push for signing the 28-year-old Tottenham star. The Danish international remains an unhappy figure, but with crucial midfielders missing from action, Spurs might drag his transfer until the very end of January.

Napoli are intereted in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Napoli have maintained an interest in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for some time now and could push through with the transfer later this month. There were reports the Serie A giants had abandoned the pursuit after switching their attention towards Boubakary Soumare, but they are still in the running.

Napoli are keen on the Danish international after understanding he could leave north London after growing frustrated with his role under Ange Postecoglou. The 28-year-old Tottenham star had other suitors like Atletico Madrid and Juventus before, but Spurs’ unwillingness to sanction a loan deal might have taken them out of the equation.

Napoli may have come to a position to spend significantly on the experienced midfielder and may push through a move. Tottenham are keen on offloading but are cautious enough to wait until the very end of the month as they are missing key midfielders in their ranks.

Fulham are also one of the clubs keen on Hojbjerg, but the offer of Champions League football from Napoli might trump other offers. Hence, there’s a chance the Serie A champions might open talks with Spurs and look to finalise a deal at the earliest.

Are Tottenham waiting before selling Hojbjerg?

Tottenham are not keen to keep hold of Hojbjerg beyond this window, as a sale would help them with their transfer activity. They are probably waiting on the Conor Gallagher deal before finalising a move for the Dane to whichever club are interested.

Napoli may fall victim to this waiting game between Chelsea and Tottenham for Gallagher, as the two clubs have remained in constant contact. If Hojbjerg does leave, it will weaken Spurs’ midfield options, considering Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma have already left for the AFCON.

Hence, Napoli must push through the transfer if they are serious. If Spurs end up making the Serie A Champions wait, there are chances they might cool their interest and move on to other targets.
