Tottenham are willing to loan out Sergio Reguilon, with Brentford interested in the 27-year-old left-back after he returned to the club.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham are prepared to loan out Sergio Reguilon for the second time this season after the 27-year-old returned from his spell at Manchester United. Brentford are one of the sides keen on the Spaniard, as Spurs believe another move could put the full-back in the shop window.
Tottenham to loan Sergio Reguilon again?
Tottenham may have thought about offloading Sergio Reguilon at the start of last season. Yet, they could only find Atletico Madrid as a suitor who were only willing to take him on a loan deal. His spell in Madrid failed, as the 27-year-old only made 12 appearances in an injury-ravaged season.
Having returned to Tottenham during the summer, he soon found no place for him in Ange Postecoglou’s plans. A late opportunity arrived with Manchester United, as he went to Old Trafford on loan and was decent enough to put in 12 appearances.
Manchester United wanted him amid an injury crisis which saw Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw both sidelined, as Erik Ten Hag was without a recognised left back. With their first-team stars returning to action, the Red Devils took up the option of the break clause in his contract and sent Reguilon back to Spurs. The North Londoners are keen on maximising his value and sending him on another temporary spell.
Tottenham believe a good loan spell where the Spaniard can play regularly could boost his market value and put him firmly in the shop window. Hence, Spurs are cautious enough to avoid selecting him in Postecoglou’s matchday squad. If the 27-year-old features for the team, he may not be able to play for another team this term.
Which clubs are interested in Sergio Reguilon?
As soon as news arrived of Reguilon’s imminent return to Tottenham after Manchester United triggered a break clause, a few clubs showed interest. Spanish side Girona have expressed a desire to sign him, and so have a few others, including Borussia Dortmund recently.
Brentford are showing strong interest in signing Reguilon to address their problems at left-back. Regular starter Rico Henry will miss the remainder of the season, while Aaron Hickey remains injured.
A move to Brentford would benefit Reguilon and Thomas Frank, as the Spaniard could play regularly here without key starters. Whether he thinks that way remains the question, but clearly, the Bees are the best option for the 27-year-old for the time being.
