According to Patrick Berger, Borussia Dortmund could prioritise a move for Sergio Reguilon in January. The German giants are eager to sign a new left-back and could target the 27-year-old Tottenham outcast with a break clause in his Manchester United loan.
Erik ten Hag recently expressed his delight at having Sergio Reguilon in his ranks after the left-back’s decent performances since signing on loan. The 27-year-old Tottenham outcast joined Manchester United on a deal until the end of the season, but there are chances of his departure in January.
Even if Ten Hag wanted, things are not under his control regarding deciding Reguilon’s immediate future. A break clause in his contract enables Tottenham to recall the 27-year-old in January, and they might exercise that following growing interest from Borussia Dortmund.
At Manchester United, Reguilon benefitted from the absences of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia until now. With the England international now fit again, he will start spending more time on the bench than on the pitch. Even if Ten Hag would like to keep him as cover for Shaw, the Spaniard might jump at another opportunity.
As per Patrick Berger, Borussia Dortmund are increasingly looking to sign the 27-year-old Tottenham outcast on priority ahead of January. The German giants have a shortage of left-back options, with summer arrival Ramy Bensebaini their only player in that position.
The departure of Raphael Guerreiro to Bayern Munich on a free transfer have left them short at left back, as they now consider few options in the market. Real Madrid’s Fran Garcia remains a target, but there are chances the Spanish giants will block a move, especially after the injury to David Alaba.
Hence, Dortmund may have switched their attention towards the 27-year-old Tottenham outcast and could sense taking him on a six-month loan deal. Tottenham would ideally prefer an outright sale, but they will want to explore ways to maximise Reguilon’s value.
Spurs might also feel that Reguilon might struggle for game time at Manchester United, which could accelerate their decision to recall him. As for Dortmund, it makes sense for the 27-year-old to join them if he can play regularly, or else he might stick around at Old Trafford.
