Manchester United have acquired the services of 26-year-old Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon on a season-long loan.

An official announcement by Manchester United has confirmed the acquisition of Sergio Reguilon. The 26-year-old Tottenham Hotspur full-back has joined the Red Devils on a season-long loan deal. And the Premier League heavyweights can cancel the deal in January.

Manchester United were in talks with Tottenham over the past few days regarding a loan move. And, finally, all parties have reached an agreement, and the player has joined Erik ten Hag’s team for the 2023/24 season.

Manchester United’s focus heading into the last phase of the transfer window was to acquire the services of Sofyan Amrabat. But, an injury to Luke Shaw changed their plans a touch. The Red Devils were forced to enter the market for a new left-back.

Since they could not manage to offload a few of their players, they did not have funds to sign players on a permanent basis. As a result, they decided to sign a new full-back on loan to cover for Shaw who is all set to miss months of football.

The Red Devils shortlisted a few players and started making moves to land them at the club. They were in talks with Marc Cucurella, Marcos Alonso, Sergio Reguilon and Jose Gaya. They managed to get an early breakthrough in talks with Tottenham Hotspur and started pushing harder.

Since the Spanish international was surplus to requirements at Spurs, they decided to let him leave on another loan move just months after returning from Atlético Madrid. The Red Devils were in desperate need and they finally managed to land him at the club.

While the 26-year-old is all set to join Manchester United on a season-long deal and will be a regular feature in the first team, according to reports there is a clause that will allow them to break the deal in the winter. This clause could be activated if Shaw manages to make a comeback by then. Meeanwhile, Reguilon has expressed his delight at joining Manchester United.

He said, “In life you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down. Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success. I  know that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am ready to fight for this group and show everyone my qualities.”

With Reguilon to Manchester United now done, the Red Devils have shifted their focus towards Sofyan Amrabat and according to the latest reports, they have managed to strike a loan plus buy option deal with Fiorentina.
