Brentford are reportedly keen on acquiring the services of 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon on a short loan.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Brentford are looking to bolster their defence in the ongoing transfer window, and they have their eyes set on Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon. The Bees are looking to avoid relegation at all costs, and they feel signing the Spanish defender can help them put up a better fight for survival.

The Sergio Reguilon Story

Reguilon came up the ranks at Real Madrid and made it to their first team in the summer of 2018. But, things did not really go according to plan for the 27-year-old in the first team. Eventually, he left Real Madrid to join Tottenham in the summer of 2020.

He was a regular in the first team in the initial years but after that, he has been out on loan on multiple occasions. Last season, the Spanish full-back was at Atletico Madrid and he was a part of the Manchester United squad for the first half of the 2023/24 seasons.

With Manchester United’s primary left-back, Luke Shaw regaining full fitness and Tyrell Malacia soon to return from injury, Reguilon has returned to his parent club. But, there is no place for him in Spurs’ first team at this stage, and he is unlikely to have much game time if he stays there until the end of the season. Another loan move is something that could be of interest to the player as well as the club.

Another Premier League Loan Beckons?

Meanwhile, Brentford who are trying their best to stay outside of the relegation zone are in search of defensive reinforcement. Thomas Frank is keen on having a new left-back at his disposal before the end of the winter window after losing Rico Henry to a long-term issue.

While he is looking at multiple options, Reguilon is one of the names on his list, and they could soon make a move. The Bees have already initiated the discussions to sign the out-of-favour Tottenham defender.

The 27-year-old is an experienced campaigner, and he could help the London club fight relegation. Given the kind of results they have had of late, the Spanish full-back’s arrival will surely be a big boost for their defence.
