Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon is expected to go out on loan this month and La Liga high-flyers Girona are keen.

According to Fichajes, La Liga high-flyers Girona are hoping to sign 27-year-old Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon on loan in the January transfer window. The former Real Madrid full-back also has other suitors.

Sergio Reguilon: Searching for a New Adventure

Reguilon was on loan at Manchester United during the first half of the season, and he has returned to his parent club now. The Spaniard has failed to impress since his move to Old Trafford, and it remains to be seen whether a move to his homeland can help him get back to his best.

The Spanish defender was highly rated in Spain before his move to Tottenham. But he has not been able to perform consistently since moving to the North London club. There is no doubt that he could be a useful option for Girona, who are hoping to fight for the league title this season.

A Return to La Liga on the Cards?

The Catalan outfit need more quality and depth in their squad to push Real Madrid for the league title, and Reguilon would be a handy option. If they can provide him with game-time assurances, a move to Girona would be ideal for the defender as well. But that might not be possible, with Miguel Gutierrez performing exceptionally well for them.

Reguilon is still only 27, and he will be hoping to resurrect his career and establish himself as a regular starter for Girona. It is evident that the 27-year-old does not have a future at Tottenham. So, the Londoners are likely to sell him if there is a lucrative proposal on the table.

A January exit is likely to be a loan deal, and it remains to be seen whether Reguilon can impress in La Liga and convince them to sign him permanently in the summer. Apart from his defensive qualities, the full-back is quite effective going forward and he could add a new dimension to the Girona attack if used properly.

He has shown his quality in La Liga in the past and could hit the ground running if the transfer goes through. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few days. Tottenham will be hoping to finalise his exit as soon as possible and the two clubs will need to thrash out an agreement now. But other clubs, like Borussia Dortmund and Real Betis, are also keen.
