AC Milan will reportedly look to sign 33-year-old Real Madrid utility man Nacho in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Nacho is the subject of interest from AC Milan. The Serie A giants are in the market for a centre-back ahead of the summer transfer window. The 33-year-old has entered the final six months of his Real Madrid contract and might leave as a free agent at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The Nacho Fernandez Story

Nacho Fernandez, better known as Nacho, has come leaps and bounds since graduating from the Real Madrid youth division. A graduate of the fabled La Fabrica, the Spanish international made his first-team debut for Real Madrid in 2011 and has been a dependable performer in the past decade.

The veteran defender has been a utility man for his club and country due to his ability to play across the backline. The 33-year-old has turned out 340 times thus far for Real Madrid, chipping in with 16 goals and eight assists. More than 200 appearances have come in La Liga, with Nacho’s versatility helping him earn game time whenever someone is unavailable.

But Nacho’s contract situation has left Real Madrid in a spot of bother, as he has entered the final six months of his deal. With talks over new terms not progressing much, the experienced defender might leave Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer transfer window. Such a situation has captured the attention of AC Milan.

Serie A Move on the Cards?

AC Milan’s interest in Nacho stems from the fitness issues plaguing the first-team squad. Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori are long-term absentees, while Malick Thiaw has blown hot and cold. Interestingly, Thiaw features on Real Madrid’s radar, with the Merengues scouring the market for a centre-back.

So, it behoves AC Milan to sign an experienced centre-back as they aim to return to the summit of Serie A. Nacho has thus emerged as a viable target for the Italian giants, who will look to sign the 33-year-old on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid will likely look to tie the Spanish utility man to a new contract, considering his value to the senior squad. It will be interesting to see if AC Milan can secure Nacho’s services this summer.
