AC Milan will look to sign long-serving Real Madrid veteran Nacho next year, but a January move will unlikely materialise.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Nacho is the subject of interest from AC Milan. The long-serving defender is in the final year of his deal with Real Madrid. But despite his contract situation, Los Blancos will not sanction a departure in the January transfer window.

Nacho has been a dependable figure since breaking into the Real Madrid first team several years ago. The 33-year-old made his senior debut for Real Madrid over a decade ago and has come leaps and bounds since then. In addition, he has also featured for the Spanish national team.

The veteran Spaniard has never been a first-choice starter for Real Madrid in the last 12 years. But he has earned the stature of being one of the four club captains for Los Blancos this year. Meanwhile, despite Nacho’s status as a backup player, he has turned out over 300 times thus far for Real Madrid, chipping in with 16 goals and nine assists.

Meanwhile, Nacho’s ability to play across the defensive unit makes him an asset for his club. But the Spanish international is approaching the end of his glittering Real Madrid spell. The long-serving utility man is in the final months of his contract, and talks over a new deal have not progressed.

So, a summer departure from the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent is seemingly on the cards. In addition, Real Madrid might not stand in his way either, with Goncalo Inacio emerging as a long-term target. Meanwhile, Nacho’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of AC Milan.

The Serie A giants are in a spot of bother due to a mini injury crisis plaguing the defensive unit. Pierre Kalulu is a long-term absentee, while Simon Kjaer is no longer a regular starter for AC Milan. So, with Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori being the only viable options, AC Milan can do with a centre-back. Nacho is thus a viable target for the Rossoneri.

But Real Madrid will not part ways with the long-serving utility man in the January transfer window. Meanwhile, Thiaw is one of the targets on Real Madrid’s radar. And it will not be surprising if AC Milan and Real Madrid see the two players swapping bases next summer. But a winter move might not be on the cards.
