Real Madrid will reportedly look to sign Goncalo Inacio, a target for Liverpool and Manchester United, in January.

According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Goncalo Inacio is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are keen on bolstering their central defensive unit in the January transfer window. And they want to beat Liverpool and Manchester United to the Portuguese centre-back, whose price tag is €60 million.

Goncalo Inacio has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world in the last few years. A graduate of the fabled Sporting CP youth division, the 22-year-old has been with the famous club for over a decade. And he has become a mainstay at the back for Sporting since breaking into the first-team squad in 2020.

The youngster has turned out 135 times thus far for Sporting CP, chipping in with 11 goals and eight assists. Meanwhile, Inacio has also broken into the Portuguese national team and should forge a long-term partnership with Antonio Silva on the international stage. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, capturing the attention of Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

Real Madrid’s interest in Inacio emerged last month, with Los Blancos suffering from an injury crisis. The Merengues have lost Eder Militao to a long-term knee injury, while David Alaba has picked up a few niggles this term. Meanwhile, Nacho is in the final year of his Real Madrid contract and approaching the end of his glittering career.

So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a young centre-back who can be Militao’s long-term partner. Inacio has thus emerged as a viable target, with Real Madrid looking to beat the competition to his signature by making a rare January signing. The Spanish giants are aware of rival interest from Liverpool and Manchester United.

The two Premier League heavyweights are scouring the market for centre-backs as they look to bolster their squads. Inacio has thus emerged as a viable target for Liverpool and Manchester United. But Real Madrid will look to beat the English giants to his signature, with his release clause of €60 million not being an excessive figure.

Liverpool and Manchester United are also financially strong enough to spend €60 million to land the Sporting CP defender. But they might not launch the offensive in January, thus leaving Real Madrid in a strong position. Meanwhile, the Portuguese giants are resigned to losing their star defender next year but will insist on recouping €60 million to part ways with him.
