Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a move for Brazilian international striker Roberto Firmino this month.

A report from Daily Telegraph has claimed that Chelsea are looking to bring in attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window. And the Blues have identified 32-year-old Al-Ahli striker Roberto Firmino as a surprise target.

Roberto Firmino Not Having a Good Time in Saudi Arabia

The former Liverpool striker joined Al-Ahli at the start of the season, and he has three goals and three assists to his name across all competitions this season. But the veteran attacker has not found the back of the net since scoring a hat-trick on debut. It will be interesting to see if the Saudi Arabian club are prepared to let him join Chelsea this month.

Chelsea need to bring in attacking reinforcements, and Firmino could prove to be an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson. The Brazilian has proven his quality in the Premier League with Liverpool over the years, scoring 111 goals for them in 362 matches across all competitions. He also helped Liverpool win every single trophy at club level.

What Will Firmino Bring to the Table for Chelsea?

Apart from his ability to score goals, Firmino will add creativity and link-up play to the side as well. He could be the ideal forward for Mauricio Pochettino’s style of play, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on Karim Benzema as well.

A move for the former Liverpool striker seems quite surprising. But it would be a wise addition if Chelsea can pull it off. The 32-year-old knows the Premier League well, and he could make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge.

In addition, he is unlikely to be an expensive acquisition, and it would be the ideal short-term signing for Chelsea. They have been linked with a number of quality strikers in recent months and could easily bring in a long-term option at the end of the season.

The opportunity to return to the Premier League could be an attractive option for Firmino, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can secure an agreement with his club now. Recent reports have also linked him with Fulham.

After a disappointing start to the season, Chelsea have shown improvements in recent weeks, and they will be hoping to finish the season strongly. Signing the right players in January could help them secure European qualification for the next season.
