Crystal Palace are eying a move for flying Colombian right-back Daniel Munoz, with the Londoners well ahead of their rivals in the chase.

The Sun has claimed that Crystal Palace want to sing Colombian right-back Daniel Munoz from Genk. The 27-year-old South American full-back could leave for £10 million, with the South London club confident about beating other interested parties in the chase.

Crystal Palace eye Daniel Munoz

Crystal Palace are eager to make significant additions in the January window as they carefully select their preferred targets. Roy Hodgson may want some strengthening at the back, which could see him urge the club to sign a centre-back and a right-back.

There are a few names for the central role, like Luton Town’s Gabriel Osho and Peterborough’s Ronnie Edwards. In the right-back position, they have reportedly earmarked Daniel Munoz, the Colombian international, as they are reported to close in on the 27-year-old South American full-back.

The interest in Munoz may come due to his contractual situation at Genk. But his ultimate desire to play at a higher level could put Crystal Palace in the front seat. The report suggests interest in the Colombian from Botafogo, surprisingly orchestrated by Crystal Palace shareholder John Textor. Palmeiras are also keen, but Palace remain confident of outbidding those rivals.

Genk will demand £10 million for the 27-year-old South American full-back, a price that falls well within Palace’s pockets. They have two ageing right-backs in Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne, with Hodgson probably looking at Munoz as the sort of player that changes their way in that role. The Belgian side have a year-long option on his current deal, that originally expires next summer, leaving the door open for Palace.

Crystal Palace’s January business

A lot is going on in the background for Crystal Palace, with the Londoners keen on defensive reinforcements but also needing attackers. While they might have made it clear they will not meet Arsenal’s demands for Eddie Nketiah, they already have another alternative.

Marseille’s Iliman Ndiaye remains a target, and Palace could snap him just five months after leaving England for France. They are also looking for another winger, typically to fill a berth on the left-hand side. As for the Munoz links, with the calibre of clubs against them in this hunt, Palace are set to outbid them and bring the 27-year-old South American full-back to Selhurst Park.
