Tottenham are still pushing to sign Conor Gallagher in this window as Ange Postecoglou views him as an ideal piece in his team.
According to The Independent, Tottenham are still pushing to sign Conor Gallagher despite the difficulties in brokering a deal with Chelsea. The 23-year-old rival star’s future remains up for debate as he enters the final 18 months of his deal with the Blues.
Tottenham are intent on a new midfielder, Gallagher top target
Tottenham have many plans this month, and they have started the window on fire with the potential deal for Radu Dragusin. The Romanian defender could be one of the many players coming into the club, as Ange Postecoglou wants one midfielder and an attacker of some sort.
The requirement for a new midfielder has been a pressing issue for Postecoglou since the summer. While he has a stable partnership with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, the duo will miss a few games due to their AFCON commitments.
Then, Tottenham might decide on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future, with the midfielder keen on a departure after falling down the pecking order. Postecoglou wants Conor Gallagher as his ideal replacement for the Dane, with the 23-year-old rival star’s profile suiting the Spurs system.
Tottenham had opened talks with Chelsea for Gallagher, but there are massive complications in signing the midfielder. While the Blues might open their doors to a sale as they are keen on new signings but see their efforts restricted by FFP regulations, selling their 23-year-old homegrown midfielder may open a lot of doors financially.
Can Tottenham sign Gallagher from Chelsea?
Business between the two London giants has been far and few between, with goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini the last player to get transferred between the two sides. There’s an air of volatility between the teams, which could hamper this Gallagher deal and more in the future.
Ideally, Gallagher would prefer to stay at Chelsea, as this is his home club, and for him to join a local rival would not sit pretty with his family. Hence, the chances of the 23-year-old joining Spurs can cast doubt, but much will depend on the role offered to him.
While it would be premature to dismiss a move altogether, for Tottenham to sign Gallagher, it would take a massive effort. Chelsea will also demand at least £50 million for the homegrown star, and if they can sell, then the Blues can use those funds to bring more players in this month.
