Tottenham Hotspur have won the race to sign 21-year-old Genoa defender Radu Dragusin despite a hijack attempt from Bayern Munich.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have struck a deal with Genoa for the services of Radu Dragusin. Spurs were keen on bolstering their defence in the ongoing transfer window, and they have succeeded in signing their priority target despite Bayern Munich’s attempt to hijack the deal.

The Rise of Radu Dragusin

Radu Dragusin has made quite a name for himself while playing for Genoa. He has been a consistent performer over the past 18 months. The 21-year-old might have failed to break into the Juventus first team back in the day but has surely turned things around.

His impressive spell at Genoa resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Spurs are one of the clubs that have been keen on having the Romanian international in their ranks. The North London club got off to a flying start to the new season. They were at the top of the Premier League table but came crashing down because of injuries and a lack of depth in the squad.

As a result, they were keen on bringing in reinforcement in January. Ange Postecoglou’s priority was to sign the Genoa centre-back to bolster his defence. And Tottenham have succeeded in signing him despite late attempts made by Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich Attempted a Hijack

The German giants are looking to add more depth to their backline. Bayern felt Radu Dragusin could have helped their cause in the short as well as long term. While talks between Tottenham and Genoa were in the final stages, the German giants made a late attempt to hijack the deal.

But, they failed because the player was quite keen on joining the North London club. Despite the bid by Bayern, the 21-year-old gave the green light to his move to Tottenham. While the North London club have won the race, they were forced into making an overnight bid as they had no intentions of losing out to Bayern Munich.

They have agreed to pay in excess of €30 million and Djed Spence is joining Genoa on a short-term loan in a part-exchange deal. The 21-year-old will undergo his medical today in London according to Florian Plettenberg. With the saga now done and dusted, there could be an official announcement in the near future.
