Everton will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay from Manchester United this year.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Scott McTominay is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are in the market for a midfielder in the ongoing January transfer window. They have set their sights on the 27-year-old Manchester United midfielder, as he can hit the ground running at Goodison Park.

The Scott McTominay Story

Scott McTominay has been a solid performer for Manchester United since breaking into the club’s first-team squad. Jose Mourinho handed the Scottish international his breakthrough at Old Trafford, and he has been in and out of the team since then. While he does not have the qualities to be the undisputed first-choice starter for Manchester United, he has made his mark at the club.

The 27-year-old has turned out 232 times thus far for Manchester United, chipping in with 25 goals and 31 assists. He has made over 150 appearances in the Premier League and knows the competition inside out. But McTominay’s long-term Manchester United future is uncertain after they tried to offload him in the summer transfer window.

Erik ten Hag was keen on parting ways with McTominay last summer as he looked to transform his midfield unit. West Ham United came close to completing a deal for the Scotsman. But a move did not materialise, and the player has done well to win back his place in the team by scoring several crucial goals.

What Does the Future have in Store?

However, McTominay’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain, with Everton joining the race to sign him. The 27-year-old has also attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United.

As for Everton’s interest in McTominay, it likely stems from the uncertainties surrounding the future of Amadou Onana. The Belgian international is a hot property in the market, with Arsenal and Manchester United interested in him. Replacing Onana with the Scottish international might be a sensible decision.

The 27-year-old has extensive experience in the Premier League and can hit the ground running at Goodison Park. Meanwhile, McTominay is not the only Manchester United midfielder on Everton’s radar, as they have also shown interest in Hannibal Mejbri. It will be interesting to see if a deal for the Scotsman sees the light of day.
