Everton will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old Tunisian whizkid Hannibal Mejbri on loan from Manchester United this month.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Hannibal Mejbri is the subject of interest from Everton. The 20-year-old was closing in on completing a loan switch to Sevilla. But the Toffees are now looking to hijack the Andalusian club’s deal for the young whizkid, initiating contacts with Manchester United.
Hannibal Mejbri at Manchester United: The Story So Far
Hannibal Mejbri has made considerable progress since joining Manchester United from AS Monaco. The Tunisian international was one of the best young midfielders in the world when he arrived at Old Trafford, compelling Manchester United to invest a sizable sum of €10 million to secure his services.
The 20-year-old progressed through the ranks at Manchester United before breaking into the first-team squad in May 2021. Since then, he has made gradual progress in the senior setup, with game time coming at a premium. Mejbri has managed only 313 minutes of action thus far this season for the Manchester United first team.
Despite struggling for game time with the first-team squad, Hannibal Mejbri has made significant progress at Manchester United. So, it is hardly surprising that many well-known clubs want to sign him on loan in the January transfer window. Recent reports have linked him with Sevilla, with the youngster ready to join Los Nervionenses. But Everton will look to hijack that deal.
Everton Keen on a Loan Deal
Everton and Manchester United have previously had negotiations for several players, with Donny van de Beek joining the Merseyside club on loan in 2022. While that move did not work out, Everton will need a midfielder for the second half of the 2023/24 season.
The Toffees have a ten-point disadvantage to the other Premier League teams this season due to a Financial Fair Play sanction. Sean Dyche has several solid midfielders in his squad. But Idrissa Gueye is with Senegal for the Africa Cup of Nations, while Andre Gomes faces an uncertain future at Everton.
Hannibal Mejbri has thus emerged as a viable target, and he might feature regularly in the second half of the season. The Toffees have already established contact over a possible loan move for the 20-year-old whizkid. But it will be interesting to see if Everton can beat Sevilla to the signature of the Manchester United midfielder.
