Tottenham are engaged in talks with Chelsea for Conor Gallagher, with the midfielder set to cost between £45-50 million.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham and Chelsea are engaged in talks to find an agreement for Conor Gallagher. A deal could be stuck this month provided Spurs are willing to pay £45-50 million and whether the England international would prefer a move to north London.
Tottenham and Chelsea in talks for Gallagher
Transfers between Tottenham and Chelsea have been few, with goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini being the last one to make such a move back in 2009. Now, there’s a big chance afoot to break the hoodoo, as Spurs are engaged in talks to sign Conor Gallagher.
Some earlier reports had also stated the same, while others insisted Tottenham were unlikely to sign the Chelsea midfielder. However, the Blues may have thought long and hard about the idea and now could sanction a deal to let the midfielder join their arch-rivals.
Whether Gallagher remains open to a move remains the question, but with 18 months left on his deal and no talk of a new contract, he might consider his options. Spurs had held an interest since the summer and now could capitalise on Chelsea’s need to sell for FFP-related issues.
Chelsea are reportedly asking about £45-50 million for the midfielder, which might seem reasonable for what Gallagher offers. Spurs will surely make their best attempt, but everything will depend on the player himself and whether he wants to join the North Londoners and irk his fanbase.
Tottenham’s January plans
Spurs made a surprise move in the market as they are closing in on Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig. They are also chasing Radu Dragusin, but the Genoa defender also remains open to joining Napoli. Ange Postecoglou had wanted a new defender and seemed close to bringing the Romanian international.
They are also in the hunt for a midfielder and consider Gallagher a solid option. They might only sign the Chelsea man if they can offload Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January. The Danish star seems discontent with life at the club and already has plenty of suitors from abroad.
