Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are ready to part ways with Thiago Silva in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Thiago Silva will likely leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window. The 39-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract with the West London club. And a return to his homeland by rejoining Fluminense is on the cards for the experienced defender.

Thiago Silva: One of the Game’s Greatest

Thiago Silva has been one of the best performers for Chelsea since arriving in a Bosman move three and a half years ago. One of the greatest centre-backs of all time, the Brazilian defender has had legendary stints with Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan. In addition, he has turned out 113 times for his national side.

The 39-year-old has made 137 appearances thus far for Chelsea, chipping in with six goals and four assists. But despite Silva’s consistent performances, the Blues have been dreadful during his stint at the West London club. While they won the UEFA Champions League in his first season, things have been on a downward spiral since then.

The Blues were dreadful in the 2022/23 season, finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Things have barely improved this term, with Mauricio Pochettino failing to get the best out of his squad. But Thiago Silva has been solid, with the veteran centre-back being a mainstay at the back for Chelsea.

Set to Leave Chelsea?

But Silva’s time at Chelsea is drawing to a close, with the experienced defender entering the final six months of his contract. The Brazilian centre-back will likely return to his homeland, with Fluminense keen on re-signing him.

The 39-year-old is keen on rejoining his former club in the summer transfer window. But there has been a lack of clarity about whether Chelsea will want to part ways with him. The latest update provides that, with the West London club ready to part ways with him.

So, Thiago Silva will depart from Stamford Bridge as a free agent at the end of the 2023/24 season. It will be interesting to see if the 39-year-old Brazilian defender rejoins Fluminense in the summer transfer window.
