Liverpool will not look to sign Piero Hincapie from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in the January transfer window.
According to Ben Jacobs, Piero Hincapie does not feature on Liverpool’s wishlist for the January transfer window. The Reds might look to sign a centre-back this month. But the Bayer Leverkusen defender is not a target for the Merseyside club, with the journalist also ruling out moves for Andre Trindade and Joao Palhinha.
Piero Hincapie and His Rollercoaster Ride in the Bundesliga
Piero Hincapie established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga after joining Bayer Leverkusen from CA Talleres. He has also seen a rise in his market value from €13 million to €35 million in the last 30 months. But his stock has fallen under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso.
While Bayer Leverkusen’s rise under Xabi Alonso has been mind-boggling, Hincapie has been in and out of the starting lineup this season. The 21-year-old has managed only 870 minutes of game time across 17 appearances thus far. However, the Ecuadorian international remains highly sought-after in the transfer market.
Widespread reports have linked Hincapie with several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid and Newcastle United. But the most heavy links have come with Liverpool, with the Merseyside club keeping tabs on the youngster’s progress throughout his time at Bayer Leverkusen.
Will Liverpool Sign Hincapie?
Liverpool’s potential interest in Hincapie stems from the urgent need to sign a centre-back this month. Joel Matip is a long-term absentee due to a knee injury. In addition, the Cameroonian defender is in the final six months of his contract with Liverpool. Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk is on the wrong side of 30, while Joe Gomez is not a dependable asset due to his fitness issues.
So, it behoves Liverpool to invest in a centre-back in the January transfer window. Piero Hincapie thus emerged as a viable target for the Merseyside club. But Liverpool will not launch the offensive to sign the 21-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender this month.
Ben Jacobs has revealed that Andre Trindade, Joao Palhinha, and Piero Hincapie do not feature on Liverpool’s wishlist. So, the Ecuadorian international will likely remain at the Bundesliga club beyond the January transfer window.
