Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham linked.

Ivan Toney is currently sidelined for breaching the gambling regulations, and he will return to action midway through January. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are keen on signing the English international. But a report from TEAMtalk has claimed that he is increasingly likely to sign a new contract with Brentford.

Brentford Want to Tie Ivan Toney to a New Contract

Brentford will be desperate to hold on to Toney, and tying him down to a new deal would be a major boost for them. The striker is valued in excess of £80 million, and Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be keen on signing him.

Arsenal need a reliable goalscorer, and Toney would be an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus who has failed to score goals consistently. But an agreement with the Englishman now appears unlikely.

Chelsea need to bring in someone better than Nicolas Jackson. The former Villarreal attacker has been quite mediocre, and Chelsea need better players if they want to compete for major trophies.

As for Tottenham, they decided not to replace Harry Kane in the summer and have been overly dependent on Son Heung-min. While the South Korean international has been outstanding, he will be away with his country for the AFC Asian Cup this month. Tottenham need more goals in their attack, and Toney would be a superb addition.

What Does the Future Have in Store for Toney?

The 27-year-old wants to play for a big club, and he will be hoping to secure an exit from Brentford this month. It seems he is ready to commit his long-term future to the club. But he will not give up on his dream of playing for the big clubs, as the new deal will include a release clause.

Either way, it will be difficult to sign the player in January because of his premium valuation as well. While there is no doubt that he is a proven performer in the Premier League the £80 million-plus valuation could prove to be prohibitive for any club hoping to sign him.

Arsenal and Chelsea, in particular, will have to deal with the Financial Fair Play regulations after spending significant sums of money in recent windows. They might not be able to pay over the odds for the 27-year-old striker.

I think that he will be better off with his club. They will never get the amount that they are asking for.
