Chelsea and VfL Wolfsburg are reportedly discussing a possible deal for FIFA Under-17 World Cup winner David Odogu.

According to a report by The Sun, David Odogu is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues have continued their forays into the market for highly-rated prospects. They have held talks with VfL Wolfsburg over a possible deal for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup winner, known as the “next Antonio Rudiger”.

Who is David Odogu?

David Odogu has spent his formative years thus far in Germany, passing through the academies at four clubs. He represented SSC Sudwest, Hertha 03 Zehlendorf and Union Berlin before joining VfL Wolfsburg in 2020. Since then, the 17-year-old has come leaps and bounds at the Bundesliga club.

A centre-back by trade, the German defender has taken age-group football by storm with his no-nonsense style of defending. That has also helped him earn the moniker of the “next Antonio Rudiger” in his homeland. Meanwhile, Odogu was a part of the squad that won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup last year.

The youngster’s progress at VfL Wolfsburg has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many well-known clubs. These include Leicester City and Chelsea, with the two former Premier League champions vying for his signature. Meanwhile, Odogu is keen on moving to England, preferably to an established top-flight bigwig.

The report has revealed that Chelsea and VfL Wolfsburg have held talks over a possible deal for David Odogu. The Blues have been renowned for constantly scouring the market for the brightest young prospects under the Todd Boehly-led regime. Such an outlook has brought them teenage prodigies like Angelo Gabriel, Kendry Paez, and Deivid Washington.

The Blues are also vying for the signature of the highly-coveted Estevao Willian. David Odogu has now emerged on Chelsea’s radar, with the West London club discussing a deal for him. The 17-year-old has earned the moniker of the “next Antonio Rudiger”, which might have alerted Chelsea.
