Hugo Lloris received a seven-figure payoff from Tottenham before finalising his move to Los Angeles FC in the MLS.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham agreed to a seven-figure payoff with Hugo Lloris before terminating his contract. The long-serving veteran has joined LAFC in the MLS and had six months left on his Spurs deal.

Hugo Lloris leaves Tottenham

After 11 seasons at the top of his game in North London, long-serving veteran Hugo Lloris left Tottenham. He bid his goodbyes to the home crowd during the home game against Bournemouth. The keeper will reflect on a promising career in North London and will look forward to a new challenge.

The French World Cup-winning captain played 444 times in all competitions during his time at Spurs, with 361 of those coming in the Premier League. During his time in England, only David de Gea kept more clean sheets than Lloris’s tally of 127.

Earlier in the summer, when he entered his final contractual year at Tottenham, the club were open to offers to sell him. OGC Nice made a late bid around deadline day, but the move never materialised. By then, Spurs had already signed Gugleilmo Vicario, who has since become their first-choice keeper.

Tottenham had grown frustrated with Lloris’s situation and wanted a solution ahead of January. Now, with his move to LAFC confirmed, both parties can move on from their time together, both good and bad ones.

Hugo Lloris received a seven-figure payoff

Tottenham had planned on terminating Lloris’s contract ahead of the January window to let the keeper go and find a new challenge. They had been open to the idea even back in the summer. But the long-serving veteran needed help finding a suitable challenge.

With his move to LAFC now confirmed, Lloris has reportedly taken a massive pay cut to join the MLS side. For terminating his remaining six months in north London, Tottenham agreed to a seven-figure payoff based on the Frenchman’s wages of over £100,000 per week. There were reports of European sides keen on the keeper, but he has chosen a new challenge away from the limelight.

It was an expected resolution for any player getting his contract terminated. In Lloris’s case, he might have stayed put and moved on as a free agent in June. However, the doors have opened for an early exit, and now the keeper will flaunt his skills in the United States.
