Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is closing in on an exit from the North London club, with a contract termination on the cards.

A report from Football Insider has claimed that Tottenham will look to terminate the contract of Hugo Lloris and offer him a payoff in January so that he can leave the club.

The 36-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the North London club. But they are not willing to keep him until the end of the season. It would be a good decision for Tottenham as well, and they would be able to get his £100,000-a-week wages off the books.

The former French international has fallen down the pecking order at the Premier League club, and he is now the fourth-choice keeper behind Guglielmo Vicario, Fraser Forster and Brandon Austin. Lloris has not had any game time at Tottenham this season. So, it makes sense for him to move on.

He could still be a valuable player for most clubs and it remains to be seen where he ends up. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was heavily linked with the move away from Tottenham during the summer transfer window as well. But a move did not materialise eventually. The Frenchman ended up staying at the club, but he has not been an option for manager Ange Postecoglou.

It is evident that the player will not get any opportunities at the North London club for the remainder of the season. So, it makes sense for him to move on in search of regular playing time. He was linked with a return to France in the summer, and it remains to be seen whether he decides to return home in the coming months.

There is no doubt that the 36-year-old has been an exceptional servant for Tottenham over the years, and he has helped them challenge for league titles and Champions League trophies. However, he is clearly past his best and needs to move on.

Tottenham needed a better goalkeeper to compete at the highest level, and Vicario has proven to be a quality acquisition so far. Lloris cost them valuable points last season, and it is hardly a surprise that they have chosen to replace him this season.
