Everton are keeping close tabs on Alex Robertson, the Manchester City prospect who has excelled at Portsmouth on loan this season.

According to Portsmouth News, Everton are closely monitoring Alex Robertson’s situation at Portsmouth and could make a move for the 20-year-old Manchester City prospect. The attacking midfielder has taken considerable strides in his development, which could prompt interest from the Toffees ahead of January.

Who is Alex Robertson?

Alex Robertson joined Manchester City back in 2017 from Australian side Hakoah Sydney and has done well in their youth sides. He earned his first senior loan to Scottish side Ross County and in the summer to Portsmouth. It is at Fratton Park that he made his mark and showed he has taken huge strides with his development.

The 20-year-old Manchester City prospect has become a fan favourite at Fratton Park, making 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring once and assisting three times during the season. Portsmouth are keen to keep hold of him at least till the end of the season and possibly find a new agreement for another loan deal next term.

Manchester City do have a recall clause in Robertson’s contract, which might see them exercise it if there is substantial interest from Premier League sides. Everton are the one closely monitoring the 20-year-old as they approach to take him to Goodison Park.

Manchester City are open to the idea if they can get decent money for their talent. The Premier League Champions have sold talents worth £70 million or more through their academy in recent windows, with Cole Palmer’s move to Chelsea being their biggest in that regard.

Everton are targeting important players for the future

With the Toffees interested in Alex Robertson, they clearly view him as an option for their future squads. If they are to bring him in January to improve their squad depth, the 20-year-old Manchester City prospect could get decent first-team opportunities in the next six months.

Everton are already fighting to keep one of their own young stars in Jarrad Branthwaite, although they are keen on adding more to their young stable of players.

There is interest in Corinthians’ Wesley Gassova and Croatian wonderkid Anton Matkovic in recent weeks. Overall, they are planning for the future by targeting talents that have a considerable upside. Either they can successfully integrate them into the first team or sell for a good profit in the coming years.

As for Alex Robertson, their interest could make Manchester City recall the 20-year-old from his loan at Portsmouth and sell him to Everton.
