Turkish sides Besiktas and Trabzonspor are keen to sign Cedric Soares from Arsenal as they have opened talks with his agent.
According to Rudy Galetti, the Arsenal defender has generated interest from Turkish sides Besiktas and Trabzonspor ahead of next month’s window. The two clubs have reportedly opened talks with his agent, as the Gunners could allow him a departure in January.
Could Cedric leave Arsenal?
Mikel Arteta values Cedric Soares’ experience within his squad but no longer counts on the Portuguese star to deliver for his team. The full-back has barely started and is not even considered an option off the bench despite the Gunners’ lack of need for more defensive depth in the squad.
One way or another, Arsenal and Cedric will end their relationship either next month or in the summer. There have been rumours about Villarreal’s interest in the full-back. If he does end up joining the Spanish side, then there’s the chance of staying in one of the big leagues.
Arsenal will want a modest fee to let Cedric leave despite the full-back having only six months left on his deal. He could leave for free next summer, but at the moment, he’s barely playing, so he might prefer to move now and start a new challenge elsewhere.
Besiktas and Trabzonspor interested in Cedric
As per Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, besiktas and Trabzonspor are keen on Cedric. The Turkish sides have reportedly spoken to the full-back’s agent in a bid to strike an agreement with him ahead of the January window.
Cedric might consider proposals from both if the conditions are right. He might take this as a chance to start a new challenge elsewhere, and the Turkish league is a good prospect for him. However, he might also want to prove a point in England and wait for some proposals from other clubs to arrive.
For now, Cedric leaving Arsenal seems more or less inevitable, although there can always be late twists. For instance, if Mikel Arteta cannot find a suitable replacement or if the Gunners end January with the same set of defenders, then the manager would want the Portuguese to stay.
The other thing is that clubs would not want to pay any fee for the full-back, considering he’s barely played in recent times. Hence, Arsenal might have to let him leave for free, and in this scenario, Arteta might as well keep him around for the remainder of the season and have a fallback option if needed in certain games.
