Villarreal have asked for information about the availability of Cedric Soares alongside other clubs, with Arsenal eager to sell.

According to SPORT, La Liga giants Villarreal are keen on signing Cedric Soares and have enquired about the wide man’s availability. The Portuguese international star does not have a place in Mikel Arteta’s side, and the Gunners are eager to conduct a sale as part of their clearout.

Cedric Soares never really found his footing in this Arsenal side, although he originally only came in as a short gap option. Fans were left surprised when the Gunners decided to make his signing permanent despite an underwhelming six-month loan, which has yet to work out.

Despite his vast experience spanning 164 Premier League appearances with Southampton and Arsenal, Cedric must have a place in Arteta’s plans. While stating publicly he would like to fight for his position on this side, there is no room for him as the Spanish manager builds a different style to the 31-year-old.

After playing 119 minutes across three competitions, Cedric left for Fulham, signing on a six-month loan deal. Marco Silva had hoped to revive the wide man’s game, but the full-back only managed sporadic appearances.

With Fulham not negotiating any further to sign him permanently, other clubs are keen on signing the 31-year-old. The report points towards growing interest from Portuguese clubs; Villarreal are also in the mix for the Arsenal man.

The Spanish side are keen to bolster their defensive ranks with an experienced head like Cedric. Villarreal have reportedly asked for information regarding the prospects of the full-back moving, and talks could progress in the coming days.

Arsenal could yet seek some fees in return as they are reluctant to lose any player for free. Cedric has a year left on his deal with the Gunners, and they are eager to sell. Arteta has already signed Jurrien Timber from Ajax, and the versatile defender brings plenty that Cedric cannot.

Meanwhile, as we defined Timber’s style for Arsenal, the Dutch international also brings some much-needed depth at right back and in the central defensive position. Hence, Cedric can leave the club if a decent offer arrives, with Villarreal currently in front of the queue.

His wages could still prove a stumbling block, as the Spanish side may need help to afford his current salary. They might negotiate, but this factor alone can derail any prospective move to Spain.
