Atletico Madrid might offload Jose Maria Gimenez next summer, handing a boost to Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jose Maria Gimenez might not be at Atletico Madrid next season. The La Liga giants are considering parting ways with the 28-year-old defender, a target for Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid, in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Jose Maria Gimenez at Atletico Madrid: The Story So Far

Jose Maria Gimenez has established himself as one of the best defenders in La Liga since joining Atletico Madrid over a decade ago. The Uruguayan international was a teenage prospect when he arrived from Danubio in 2013. While he has never been an ever-present in the Atletico Madrid backline, his stock has remained high.

The 28-year-old has turned out 300 times thus far for Los Rojiblancos, chipping in with 12 goals and 11 assists. But Gimenez’s Atletico Madrid future is uncertain, with the Colchoneros considering selling him next summer. Such a situation has come as a boost for his suitors like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Manchester United.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal or Manchester United: Where Will Gimenez Land?

Barcelona and Real Madrid will likely sign a centre-back next summer. With Inigo Martinez being a short-term solution, Barcelona can do with a central defender. Meanwhile, at Real Madrid, David Alaba is on the wrong side of 30 and recovering from a long-term knee injury. In addition, Nacho has entered the final year of his contract.

So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a centre-back, with Manchester United defender Raphael Varane recently emerging as a target. Speaking of Manchester United, the Red Devils are in the market for a centre-back amid uncertainties surrounding Varane’s future. Several candidates, including Leny Yoro, have thus emerged on their radar.

But Jose Maria Gimenez is also a viable target for Manchester United. As for Arsenal, Jakub Kiwior faces an uncertain future at the Emirates and might depart next summer to seek regular game time. So, it behoves the Gunners to invest in a centre-back in 2024, with Gimenez being an option worth considering.

With Atletico Madrid considering Gimenez’s sale, all four clubs will fancy their chances of landing him. So, it will be interesting to see if the 28-year-old remains in La Liga after completing a controversial move or if he lands in the Premier League.
