Barcelona eyeing Amadou Onana swoop, establish contact with his entourage

La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing Amadou Onana, valued at €50 million by Everton, with Manchester United also interested.

According to reputed French journalist Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, Amadou Onana is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions have contacted the Everton midfielder’s representatives. Meanwhile, the Belgian international is also a target for Manchester United.

Amadou Onana At Everton: The Story So Far

Amadou Onana has been one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League since joining Everton from LOSC Lille last year. The 22-year-old has been one of the top performers for the Merseyside club during a topsy-turvy period at Goodison Park.

The Belgian international has turned out over 50 times thus far for Everton, chipping in with three goals and three assists. Onana is also growing in stature on the international stage, making nine appearances for Belgium. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs.

The most recent reports have linked the Everton midfielder with Arsenal. But Santi Aouna has quashed suggestions that the Gunners are interested in signing him. However, Onana is a target for other well-known European bigwigs, including Manchester United and Barcelona. The Catalan giants are the latest club to show an interest in him.

Barcelona or Manchester United: Where Will Onana Land?

Manchester United can do with a midfielder like Amadou Onana amid the advancing years of Casemiro. The Brazilian international was a shell of his domineering self this season before a long-term hamstring injury struck him. Meanwhile, Sofyan Amrabat might not have a long-term future at Manchester United after blowing hot and cold this season. Onana is thus a viable target.

As for Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for the long-term successor to Sergio Busquets. The Blaugrana signed Oriol Romeu this past summer. But the veteran midfielder has struggled to stamp his authority at the club. Amadou Onana is thus an option worth considering for Barcelona. And the Catalan giants have already contacted his entourage.

Meanwhile, Everton will demand around €50 million to part ways with Onana next year. That might pose a problem for the financially stricken Barcelona. But Manchester United might not have any qualms about shelling out €50 million to land the Belgian midfielder. It will be interesting to see how this story evolves in the coming months.
