Arsenal need to pay £60 million to sign Amadou Onana

Everton will demand more than £60 million from Arsenal to sell Amadou Onana as Mikel Arteta continues his search for a midfielder.

A report by Fichajes has claimed that Everton will demand £60 million or more from Arsenal in January if the North Londoners approach. The 22-year-old has emerged on Mikel Arteta’s radar as he continues his search for a new midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

Arsenal and the Need For a Midfielder

Amid all the talk about signing strikers and wingers, Arsenal are focused on their efforts to bring in a new midfielder. Mikel Arteta likes a player with a massive physical presence in the middle to complement Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz.

The injury to Thomas Partey has put things into perspective for Arsenal, as they would not have overthought about a midfielder had the Ghanaian stayed fit. Arteta wants a swift plan to replace the 30-year-old and potentially sell him in January.

Joao Palhinha emerged as a target recently after it became clear that Aston Villa would not sell Douglas Luiz, albeit not on the cheap. The Brazilian might cost north of £100 million in January, which now appears outside Arsenal’s range.

They might revive their interest in Luiz during the summer. But for now, Arteta seeks another midfielder to shore up his options. Amadou Onana emerged as a target lately, as the Gunners could look at Everton’s financial state and try an approach.

Amadou Onana to Arsenal?

Everton had slapped a £60 million price tag on the midfielder and would demand that or even more from Arsenal in January. The Toffees have some financial troubles, which could see them sell a player or two.

Onana, who arrived for a fee of more than £33 million in 2022, could earn a decent profit with an imminent sale. The midfielder has also reiterated his aim to become the best and potentially even play for a bigger side. Arsenal are not alone in the chase, with Manchester United also chasing the 22-year-old midfield target.

Whether the £60 million price tag suits Arsenal remains the question. But he represents a genuine target for the Gunners if they are keen on a new player. After wrapping up the midfield signing, they could also target a new versatile attacker.
