Alessandro Buongiorno has plenty of interest from the Premier League, as the Torino defender could move clubs in January.
According to Roma Metropolitan magazine, Torino star Alessandro Buongiorno has plenty of suitors lining up a move back in the Premier League. The €30 million-plus-rated Italian defender has high-profile suitors from Serie A. Still, the interest coming from Aston Villa, Chelsea and Tottenham could see him take a different route.
There’s a notion that not many Italian stars move out of Italy to places like the Premier League and La Liga. We may have already seen a change in the air as around three top Italians moved clubs from Serie A to join the English side.
Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario joined Tottenham, while Sandro Tonali chose Newcastle United. In the case of Vicario, he has plenty of high-profile suitors, including Juventus in Serie A, but he chooses Spurs over everyone else.
Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno could choose a similar path like Vicario in January as interest mounts in the €30 million-plus-rated Italian defender. There are no shortages of clubs chasing the centre-back after a stellar start to the season with his club.
Aston Villa are considering an approach as they could lose Clement Lenglet in January. Barcelona are not keen for the defender to stay at Villa Park following little game time since his loan deal in the summer. Unai Emery might seek a replacement good enough to feature in the Premier League, something the Frenchman has failed to do so far.
Chelsea are also keen on Buongiorno, although they already have plenty of left-footed central defenders in their ranks. Hence, considering the Blues are interested in strengthening other areas of their squad, a move for an already existing profile of a defender seems unlikely.
Arsenal are also keen, but Tottenham might jump ahead of the queue if they play their cards well. Torino’s demands for the €30 million-plus-rated Italian defender seem reasonable by Premier League standards, as Spurs are keen on a new centre-back in January.
A left-footed option will also help Ange Postecoglou, although the likeliness of a right-footed option seems high. They have held talks with Jean-Clair-Todibo, meaning they could move for the Frenchman on priority, but Postecoglou would want someone to compete with Micky van de Ven.
Considering the three or four clubs keen on Buongiorno ahead of the January window, the defender could switch next month. There’s a chance he might remain in Italy to play for one of the big teams there, but the interest coming from the Premier League cannot be ignored.
