Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reportedly tracking the progress of Alessandro Buongiorno at Serie A club Torino.

According to a report by The Sun, Alessandro Buongiorno is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Torino defender is also a target for several Serie A bigwigs. Meanwhile, the Granata will demand around £35 million to part ways with the Italian centre-back.

Who is Alessandro Buongiorno?

Alessandro Buongiorno has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A in the last few years. A graduate of Torino’s youth division, the 24-year-old needed two loan stints away from the Serie A club before establishing a foothold in the first-team squad.

The Italian centre-back grew in stature at Torino in the 2020/21 season and has become a regular in the last two campaigns. Meanwhile, Buongiorno has also broken into his national team, turning out twice thus far. The player has also made 92 appearances for Torino, chipping in with three goals and five assists.

A versatile left-footed defender, the Torino centre-back can play as a centre-back and a left-back. Meanwhile, Buongiorno’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs. Recent reports linked him with Arsenal, with Chelsea now entering the race to sign him. Meanwhile, Torino will demand £35 million to part ways with him.

Chelsea Calling?

Chelsea will likely enter the market for a centre-back in one of the two transfer windows in 2024. The West London club will likely lose Thiago Silva as a free agent next summer. In addition, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, and Trevoh Chalobah face an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

So, it behoves Chelsea to invest in a centre-back next year. Alessandro Buongiorno has thus emerged as a viable target for the Premier League heavyweights. The Italian defender’s price tag of £35 million should not faze Chelsea, considering the Blues are one of the most cash-rich clubs in the world.

But the West London club will face stiff competition from several Serie A heavyweights for the 24-year-old. So, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can beat the competition to sign Alessandro Buongiorno from Torino next year.
