Real Madrid might be open to re-signing 22-year-old Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez, a target for Arsenal, next summer.

According to Spanish journalist Rodra P, Miguel Gutierrez is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are not ruling out a move to re-sign the 22-year-old, although their top target remains Alphonso Davies. Meanwhile, the Girona left-back is also a target for Premier League heavyweights Arsenal.

Miguel Gutierrez has found a stable footing in his career since joining Girona from Real Madrid last year. The Spaniard spent over a decade at Real Madrid, graduating from the club’s fabled La Fabrica setup. But he could not establish a foothold at the Santiago Bernabeu and left to feature regularly elsewhere.

The youngster’s move to Girona has worked well for him, as he has secured regular game time at Estadi Montilivi. The 22-year-old has played his part in the White and Reds rising to the summit of La Liga, chipping in with one goal and three assists in 17 appearances. Meanwhile, Gutierrez’s progress has not gone unnoticed.

Several high-profile clubs across Europe have set their sights on the Spanish left-back, including Arsenal. The Girona full-back is also a target for Premier League champions Manchester City. But Gutierrez’s former club, Real Madrid, might also launch the offensive to re-sign him next year.

Real Madrid will enter the market for a left-back in the 2024 summer transfer window. Fran Garcia will unlikely become the first-choice left-back at the Bernabeu, while Ferland Mendy faces an uncertain future at the club. So, Miguel Gutierrez is a viable target to replace Mendy. But Los Blancos’ top target for the position is Alphonso Davies, who wants the move.

As for Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has predominantly utilised Oleksandr Zinchenko as his first-choice left-back. Takehiro Tomiyasu and the injured Jurrien Timber are the other options for the position. But the Arsenal manager wants a player who can add a different dynamic to his team’s gameplay, bringing Gutierrez into the equation.

Arsenal might be the better-positioned club to secure Gutierrez’s services next year. But the 22-year-old reportedly dreams of rejoining Real Madrid if he leaves Girona. However, with Los Blancos prioritising a move for Alphonso Davies, Gutierrez will be a backup option for his former club.
