Arsenal have added Miguel Gutierrez to their list of potential left-back options as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen the position.
According to Fichajes, Miguel Gutierrez has emerged as a target for Arsenal, as they could think about making an approach in January or next summer. The Girona full-back has put in some good performances this season, with Mikel Arteta thinking about strengthening the role.
The Arsenal left-back situation looks a little weak. Oleksandr Zinchenko has taken on much of the load since Jurrien Timber suffered a long-term injury on the opening weekend. The Dutchman began the season playing in an unfamiliar position but was excellent in the short span Mikel Arteta played him there.
Without him, Arsenal have the option of Takehiro Tomiyasu as Zinchenko’s deputy, while Jakub Kiwior has also acted as cover there. The Japanese international also has to deputise for Ben White at right back, meaning Arsenal are somewhat short in the left-back position.
Arsenal have looked at some options in the market, with Brentford’s Aaron Hickey also a potential target. As Arteta looks for a new left-back, the Spanish manager does not want a first-choice star but someone who can compete with Zinchenko.
In fact, Arsenal are ready to extend Zinchenko’s deal after they extend Ben White’s contract next. Hence, someone like Hickey or their latest target, Miguel Gutierrez, who plays for Girona in Spain, could be ideal. The Spanish full-back, who has a €20 million price tag, has had a fantastic start to the campaign, helping his club rise in the standings.
Signed from Real Madrid in 2022, the Spanish giants have already looked at the possibility of re-signing him. Now, with interest coming from the Premier League, things could change for Gutierrez. Arsenal will continue to track the rising full-back ahead of a potential approach either in January or in the summer.
If Girona are to keep up with their good start to the season, then they will ward off all offers in January. Instead, they might open their doors for a summer move, with a €20 million price quoted in the report. Arsenal are certainly in a position to invest in that range on a new full-back, but the Spanish defender is only an option on their list.
