Brentford will demand a significant fee for Aaron Hickey if suitors like Arsenal or Liverpool come in with enquiries.

According to Football Insider, Brentford could seek to make a massive profit if they sell Aaron Hickey to Premier League giants. Arsenal and Liverpool are among those keen on the versatile full-back. But the Scotland international may not want to leave mid-season as he targets regular playing time.

Aaron Hickey has been one of those intriguing players who have shown patience with their career paths. When he broke into the Hearts side, the full-back did not jump at the first sight of English clubs vying for his signature. Instead, he moved to Italy and joined Bologna to continue his promising start.

After a considerable time with the Serie A side, Hickey had tremendous interest from Premier League sides, as his profile suited those who prefer wing-backs or full-backs. There was considerable talk of Arsenal showing an interest, but Brentford ensured they convinced the player to join them.

The 21-year-old full-back joined the Bees in a £14 million deal, rising to £18 million. And so far, he has looked every bit worth that investment. Now, after a good season under his belt, some of the giant clubs are already looking to sign him from Brentford.

Arsenal and Liverpool are among those looking at the 21-year-old Scotsman. Hickey’s versatility to play equally well with both feet makes him an interesting option. Top teams nowadays seek players with multiple qualities, and for a defender, the Brentford stars tick a lot of boxes.

Arsenal have been on the lookout for such a player and even had Hickey on their list before. Mikel Arteta would relish the prospect of someone who can cover both full-back positions and could see him as an ideal addition to his squad.

Liverpool’s urgent interest could have come due to the fitness issues faced by Trent Alexander-Arnold. The England international could return soon, but the Reds may need a player who can take over either flank when needed.

Brentford, for their part, are deemed as a selling club, and as Thomas Frank recently spoke about Toney in that aspect, the club are open to considering all offers they receive for their players. For Hickey, they will demand a considerable sum in return as they seek to make a huge profit on their investment.

Hickey would come across as a player who has lofty ambitions to play at the top level. However, the next Euros are on top of his mind, and hence, he wants to keep playing regular football. Moreover, he does not want to disrupt Brentford’s season with a mid-season move elsewhere. With the potential season-ending injury to Rico Henry, Hickey has become a bnonafide starter under Frank.

Hence, it is safe to assume any move for Hickey must have to wait until next summer. However, teams like Arsenal and Liverpool could make a January transfer if they feel the need for a new full-back in the next window.
