Lloyd Kelly has received a club-record contract from Bournemouth, handing Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham a blow in his chase.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Lloyd Kelly might end up staying at AFC Bournemouth beyond the 2024 summer transfer window. The 25-year-old centre-back is a target for Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur. But those high-profile clubs might not land him, with Bournemouth offering him a club-record contract.

Lloyd Kelly has been a solid performer for Bournemouth since arriving from Bristol City in July 2019. A graduate of the Bristol City Academy, he made his first-team debut for the club over half a dozen years ago. But the Englishman’s stock rose after moving to the Vitality Stadium in 2019.

The 25-year-old has turned out 126 times thus far for Bournemouth, chipping in with two goals and seven assists. But Kelly’s situation has left his club in a spot of bother, as he has entered the final year of his contract. However, the Cherries have offered a club-record deal to the player. Meanwhile, he is a target for Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool will delve into the market for a defender in the 2024 January transfer window. The Reds have lost Joel Matip to a season-ending knee injury. In addition, Joe Gomez’s fitness issues mean he will not be a dependable figure for the Merseyside club. So, it behoves Liverpool to sign a centre-back, with Kelly being a viable target.

As for Newcastle United, Sven Botman is on the sidelines with an injury. With Eddie Howe not providing any clarity on the timeline of the Dutchman’s return, the Magpies need a centre-back. Lloyd Kelly is thus an option worth considering for Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur will enter the market for a centre-back in January. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are the only reliable central defenders at the North London club. So, Tottenham should invest in a player for the position, with Kelly being a top target.

But with Bournemouth offering a club-record contract to Kelly, the Cherries have handed suitors a blow. So, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur might have to set their sights elsewhere for a centre-back.
