Donny van de Beek has reportedly offered his services to Barcelona, with his future at Manchester United being uncertain.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Donny van de Beek might be an option for Barcelona to bolster the midfield unit in the January transfer window. The Manchester United outcast has offered his services to the reigning La Liga champions. But it is unclear if a move will materialise.

Donny van de Beek at Manchester United: A Tale of Disappointment

Donny van de Beek has endured a frustrating spell since joining Manchester United from Ajax in September 2020. The Red Devils had shelled out a sizable transfer fee of €40 million to land the 26-year-old. But the move has not worked out as well as he would have liked, as he has barely featured for Manchester United.

The Dutchman might have been optimistic about securing regular game time under the tutelage of former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag. But while a long-term knee injury blighted his 2022/23 campaign, he has managed only 21 minutes of game time across two outings thus far this term.

Meanwhile, a loan move to Everton did not work out in the second half of the 2021/22 season. So, with van de Beek’s fortunes reaching rock bottom, something has to give. Recent reports have linked the Manchester United outcast with several well-known clubs, including Juventus and Newcastle United. But he has now offered his services to Barcelona.

Will Donny van de Beek join Barcelona?

Barcelona might not need a player like van de Beek, considering they signed Ilkay Gundogan in the summer transfer window. While the Dutch midfielder is versatile and can reprise different roles in the middle of the park, he will not solve any issues in Barcelona’s first-team squad.

Donny van de Beek’s prowess on the ball makes him an ideal fit in Barcelona’s midfield. But he will unlikely feature regularly, meaning his fortunes will not improve much, if at all. So, a move elsewhere will suit him, considering clubs like Galatasaray and Real Sociedad are also interested in him.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will unlikely recoup anything close to €40 million when van de Beek leaves the club. But a move to Barcelona appears highly unlikely unless the Catalan giants respond favourably to the player’s offer.
