Manchester United and Newcastle United are in pole position to sign Serhou Guirassy ahead of the January window from Stuttgart.

According to Football Insider, Serhou Guirassy has many suitors ahead of January, but Manchester United and Newcastle United are in pole position in the chase. The Stuttgart man has a modest £15 million release clause in his contract, and considering his goals output this season, many clubs will scramble for his signature.

Serhou Guirassy made his loan move to Stuttgart a permanent one during the summer, but the German club did not envisage the impact. The forward has scored 17 goals across all competitions, with 16 of those coming in 11 Bundesliga appearances.

The German side is already fearing for the worst ahead of January, as suitors will look to exploit the modest £15 million release clause in his contract. The 17-goal striker already has plenty of suitors from the Premier League, and at 27, he might look to make a big career move.

In fact, he wants a Premier League move, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United among those reportedly interested. However, it’s the Red Devils and the Magpies that have emerged as front runners to sign the 17-goal striker ahead of the January window.

Guirassy was reportedly flattered by Manchester United links as Erik ten Hag continues to find the right solutions to improve his attack. Big summer signing Rasmus Hojlund has excelled in a faltering Champions League campaign with five goals but has failed to score in the Premier League so far.

For Ten Hag, bringing in a replacement does not represent a wise choice. Instead, he wants a new forward to complement the Dane. Guirassy would perfectly suit their cause for the profile he brings to the team. For his release clause, Manchester United should have no qualms about paying up.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s bad luck with juries continued during their latest game, a win over Manchester United. This time, they lost goalkeeper Nick Pope to a long-term shoulder injury, as he joined many of their other first-team stars, including striker Calum Wilson.

At one stage, the Magpies had both Wilson and Alexander Isak on the sidelines, as Eddie Howe would like Guirassy to come in and shore up the position. Newcastle United still have multiple competitions to manoeuvre and would appreciate that attacking depth, especially with a player who can fulfil various roles.

As the January window approaches, Stuttgart will have less of a chance of preventing Guirassy from leaving owing to that modest £15 million release clause. In the end, the striker will have to choose among his many suitors, of which Manchester United and Newcastle United are the current front runners.
