Chelsea and Manchester United are among the sides keen on Mike Maignan, with AC Milan eager to extend his deal at the San Siro.

According to Foot Mercato, Mike Maignan continues to attract the attention of Manchester United and Chelsea ahead of January. The €70 million-rated French international has a decision on his hand, with AC Milan actively working towards extending his stay at the San Siro.

Mike Maignan’s arrival at AC Milan two years ago sparked a revival of sorts for the Italian side. The stopper produced a top season for the Rosoneri, helping them win the Scudetto after a long wait while keeping an astute defensive record at the back,

His rise to prominence at Milan also helped him succeed at the national level, as Maignan replaced Hugo Lloris and has since become the French No.1. Milan values the keeper highly and are eager to keep him at the club, as they have been working on a contract extension for months now without any success.

The Rosoneri will continue with their efforts to convince him but are aware of the growing interest in the French international from the Premier League. Manchester United and Chelsea are among the sides that are keen, with the duo already looking for a new keeper, as per multiple reports.

While Milan will not want to sell, they will still demand a significant price for the €70 million-rated French international. That’s the going rate for top keepers in this market, with Chelsea reportedly ready to shell out more on Diogo Costa to replace Robert Sanchez.

The Spaniard’s performance has come under scrutiny after some error-prone displays. Chelsea are reportedly considering selling Sanchez in January and would like a top-notch stopper to grace their ranks. Costa remains an option, but Maignan had featured on their radar for a long time.

They may have even attempted signing him alongside Manchester United, as Milan reportedly quoted a fee close to €100 million. The Red Devils are also considering the future of Andre Onana, who arrived in a €50 million-plus deal in the summer.

Some reports stated Spanish keeper Unai Simon rejected an offer, which could hint at the club’s plans to replace Onana. Hence, there are no surprises in Manchester United’s links with Maignan, but there are doubts whether they will spend huge on the €70 million-rated French international in January.

Considering Erik ten Hag has many other priorities in the market, they might even push a goalkeeper signing for the summer. Hence, Chelsea might have a bigger chance, but Milan will continue with their efforts to keep hold of the stopper and even extend his stay at the San Siro.
