Arsenal could consider selling Eddie Nketiah for a sizeable offer to fund the signing of another attacker to shore up their squad.
According to Football Transfers, Arsenal could put Eddie Nketiah up for sale as they might use the funds for another elite forward. The academy graduate has somewhat fallen down the pecking order, which could see Mikel Arteta make a stern decision on the 24-year-old attacker’s future at the club.
The talk of Arsenal needing a new striker of a different profile continues to do the rounds in the media. The Gunners are currently at the top of the Premier League standings with a two-point advantage over nearest rival Liverpool and three points ahead of Manchester City.
Many have argued that a 20-plus goalscorer would boost their chances of winning the Premier League for the first time since the 2003-04 season. Ivan Toney’s name has come around numerous times in reports, with suggestions that Arsenal are better positioned for him over rivals Chelsea.
Arsenal, indeed, does not have a profile such as Toney’s, although Kai Havertz does have similar traits. The German, however, has been used more in a midfield role since joining from Chelsea in the summer, and Mikel Arteta would prefer him there for the long term future.
Hence, there might be a spot in the frontline for a new striker to come in, but there are questions about whether Arsenal really needs one. The argument stems from the fact that they do not have a player of Toney’s profile, which is a traditional No.9. But Arteta has managed to spread the goals around, so the theory that they do not score enough does not exist.
There are areas in the attacking third where Arsenal would like to reinforce. Arteta remains keen to bring a versatile forward who could operate in all front three positions. Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen remains a target as the manager would like someone who could cover and compete with his current wingers. Likewise, there are links to Pedro Neto, but the Gunners have considered pulling out of that chase.
The report states in order for Arsenal to sign an elite attacker, they might have to sell first, as they named Eddie Nketiah as the player likely to leave. Arteta might decide on the 24-year-old attacker ahead of January, as the Gunners may not have a massive kitty for a significant outlay in the next window.
Nketiah remains Arteta’s second-choice striker, although he is currently Arsenal’s joint top-scorer alongside Bukayo Saka in the Premier League. They might consider selling him, considering the firepower available in the squad, but only for a sizeable fee.
In theory, Nketiah will start for most clubs in the Premier League, barring a few like Liverpool or Manchester City. Hence, if Arsenal decide to sell, the 24-year-old attacker will have plenty of suitors.
