Arsenal are reportedly considering shelving their plans to sign Pedro Neto in January following his injury and willingness to stay at Wolves.

According to Daily Express, Arsenal may cool their interest in Pedro Neto ahead of January following the latest developments with the winger. In addition to the serious-looking injury suffered by the winger at the weekend, the Wolves star may have indicated he would like to remain until the season ends.

Wolves ended the weekend with an eventful draw against Newcastle United at home, as they may have finished the game as the stronger team. At least they were until Pedro Neto clutched his thigh in dismay as he entered the final third with the ball.

The Portuguese international winger had to be stretchered off the field as Wolves, and their fans await to know more about the severity of the injury. Manager Gary O’Neil confirmed what everybody knew, that it was a hamstring problem, but did not comment on how serious it was.

O’Neil said, “He’s moving around. Obviously, hamstring injuries have very different levels of severity, so we’re hoping it’s on the smaller side.”

With the January transfer window approaching, this injury can create complications over any potential move for the in-demand Portuguese international winger. Arsenal are keen to sign him ahead of the next window. But Neto’s comments have hinted at a potential stay at Wolves.

Neto said, “I want to say that I am here, and I will help everyone. “I love the club and everybody here; I have always felt that it has given a lot to me. I’m enjoying the moment here so I will continue to do that. The future and long-term ambitions don’t matter. We will never go down in any situation, we are here to win and fight. I feel really good at the moment and hope to continue.”

Wolves had reportedly demanded a premium fee from Arsenal, and going by several stories, the Gunners might have paid it to sign him. Now, there are some doubts about whether the North Londoners would want to push for a move, as they could cool their interest.

Neto had previously insisted he would not force a move away from the club, considering Wolves would like to keep him, especially if they are in a relegation fight. However, with his hamstring injury and Neto’s subsequent comments, the Gunners might call off and continue to keep tabs for the future.
