Manchester City are showing an interest in Khephren Thuram ahead of the January window, as Pep Guardiola admires the OGC Nice midfielder.

According to Italian outlet TV Play, Manchester City could set their sights upon Khephren Thuram ahead of the January window. Pep Guardiola does not have too many requirements in the next window, but he might ponder making a midfield signing.

Manchester City have developed a reputation for not getting their transfer business wrong. They always tend to carefully select their preferred targets as per Pep Guardiola’s specifications and get the player that readily fits into the well-oiled system.

However, Guardiola has somewhat got it wrong with a few stars in recent windows. There are at least three midfielders on this Manchester City side that the manager may not see a long-term future with, although one might look to leave in January.

Kalvin Phillips is that star who might look for a new challenge to keep playing regular football and remain in contention to join the England squad for the Euros. The others are Mathues Nunes and Mateo Kovacic, both signed in the summer but have yet to showcase their talent with any intent.

The potential departure of Phillips could create room in Guardiola’s side for a new midfielder, with links to Douglas Luiz already reported in the media. The manager desperately wanted Jude Bellingham or Declan Rice in the summer, as Manchester City failed to lure either despite vigorously chasing the pair at some stage during the window.

Khephren Thuram emerged as a target for Manchester City in recent months, and they could now try to find a way to deal with OGC Nice in January. The midfielder had massive links to the Premier League as well as Juventus but remained on the French side.

Speculation points to a possible departure in January, with Liverpool one of the clubs keen. Yet, the interest of Manchester City in the 22-year-old French midfielder could ignite a transfer battle between many top clubs as more teams could enter the frame.

Guardiola reportedly likes the profile of the 22-year-old French midfielder and wants Man City to wrap up a deal as soon as possible. The Premier League champions are known to pay what’s necessary to get players across the line, which could see them emerge as frontrunners for Thuram.

Liverpool could still rival for the Frenchman, but entering January, a new central midfielder is not a priority for Jurgen Klopp. Juventus are keen, but the finances involved could put their move into jeopardy, leaving Manchester City as the clear favourites to sign him.
