Manchester United are open to selling Anthony Martial if they receive a suitable offer, which opposes a loan move.

According to Football Insider, Anthony Martial could only leave Manchester United for a suitable January offer. The 90-goal veteran’s contract expires in the summer, but the club can extend it by another 12 months, meaning they are not keen on letting him depart on a temporary deal once again. In addition, they will only sanction a departure if they can get in a replacement.

Manchester United tried sending Anthony Martial on loan a couple of seasons ago, but it ended in disaster. His spell at Sevilla for around six months did not benefit any of the three parties, and he has somehow remained at Old Trafford since.

When he signed for Manchester United all those years ago, Martial was the most expensive teenager, but he has had an unfulfilled career to date. Last season, he scored nine goals in all competitions and recently bagged his second of the current season against Everton on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag will surely hope that goal will bring him up to life and that Martial starts performing to the expected levels. Yet, there is a lingering feeling that Manchester United could cash in on the forward for a suitable offer in January.

Martial also did not see himself staying at the club for the longer term, but there are chances those stances could change in the coming weeks. Yet, the club are keeping their mind open to ideas about a sale, but only if a club comes in with a sizeable offer. In addition, Martial’s departure will only see the light of day if the Red Devils sign a replacement.

Manchester United are yet to sort their forward positions, as ten Hag reportedly wants a new attacker in his ranks to complement Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish striker has yet to score his first Premier League goal since making the big move from Atalanta during the summer, although he is the club’s top score in Europe.

There are links to Timo Werner, with the German emerging as a significant option ahead of the January transfer window. Manchester United might only sign someone like the RB Leipzig forward if they can raise funds through sales, and Martial remains one of the players in that category.

His current deal expires in the summer, but Manchester United can extend it by another 12 months, which gives them room to negotiate a sale. Hence, a departure will only be permanent for the 90-goal veteran, as the Red Devils could use the funds generated to invest in a new forward.

Some clubs have shown interest for now, but there are questions about whether they will pay a sizeable fee to sign the Frenchman. In the background, ten Hag & co. will hope for Martial to revive his career, albeit for the short term, and Manchester United will finish the season strongly.
